Unfortunate timing lumps James Blake in the same category as the other dozen young "intelligent dubstep" producers that are currently flooding the internet with similar sounding (yet somehow consistently mould-breaking) tracks. But unlike the throng of shameless Joy Orbisons-to-be, Blake has the audacity to look further than simple emulation in the creation of his songs. These are songs after all, as Blake does not give us disposable tracks, but music thats' allure will last long after the passing of the current dub bandwagon. These productions graciously abandon the template of the dubstep beat and feature some of the most creative uses of silence I've ever heard.
